Obama Administration Escalates War on Medical Marijuana Patients

Posted by Ty on October 7th, 2011

We don’t bleed when we don’t fight. Yet they keep bringing the fight. Why? Let it be known, we are under Federal attack. Stand up with us. Occupy Wall Street. Occupy San Francisco.

Drug Policy Alliance press release about Obama escalating the war on drugs against patients:

A series of administration actions in the past month makes it clear that they are engaged in a full scale assault on medical marijuana patients’ rights and their ability to access medicine and that they have reconsidered their willingness to allow states with medical marijuana laws to implement those policies without federal interference. The Treasury Dept. is forcing banks in Colorado to close accounts of medical marijuana businesses operating legally under state law. The IRS now says it will not recognize legitimate business expenses of dispensaries and is requiring owners to pay taxes required of no other businesses; the result will be closure of the most well regulated dispensaries and loss of millions of dollars in tax revenue for local governments. And the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives last week ruled that state-sanctioned medical marijuana patients cannot legally possess firearms.

“The Obama administration’s latest moves strongly suggest that their medical marijuana policies are now being driven by over-zealous prosecutors and the anti-marijuana ideologues who dominated policymaking in past administrations,” said Ethan Nadelmann, executive director of the Drug Policy Alliance. “Barack Obama is betraying promises made when he ran for president and turning his back on the sensible policies announced during his first year in office. Instead of encouraging state and local authorities to regulate medical marijuana distribution in the interests of public safety and health, his administration seems determined to re-criminalize as much as possible. It all adds up to bad policy, bad politics and bad faith.”

Drug Corners: 2011 Edition

Posted by Ty on September 25th, 2011

Philadelphia Weekly covers the tragic prohibition created topic of the underground, yet quite visible, illicit drug trade on the streets of North Philly. I happen to live in San Francisco, and I could draw a similar map for you. Same for New York and Miami. We all know it, we all see it. Prohibition isn’t working. The drug economy is unstoppable. We must flow with the river of drugs, control it, and work to minimize harm, maximize contact with health professionals, and generally help people become productive citizens. And they may very well continue to use drugs while they are being productive citizens. Get used to that idea. We don’t want to push somebody away for using crack. We want to bring them closer to us, to continually offer health care and support so the person feels less compelled to use crack cocaine, for example. Help people help themselves. Prison is not the answer to any drug problem. End the war on drugs yesterday.

“…sounds arise from the underground economy.

“Wet, wet, wet.”
“Xannies!”
“Suboxone!”
“Oxy!”
“Greenies!”
“Dope?”
“You smokin’ that crack?”
“What you need?”

Eight different come-ons, from a vast collection of different Philadelphians—white, black and Latino; young, middle-aged and graying. And all these offers speak to the same basic truths: Philadelphia is awash in the narcotics trade. And like all illicit economies, the drug trade begets a brutal gangsterism whose stock in trade is violence—on an industrial scale. The statistics are as astonishing as they are appalling. “We’ve had 16,000 shootings here in the last 10 years,” says Assistant U.S. Attorney Rob Reed. “Sixteen—THOUSAND!”

Where are the corners in your city? Would the drug dealers still be on the corner if drugs were made legal, as the cops from L.E.A.P. suggest? Who would their customers be? No one, right. Crazy as it may sound, health professionals should provide cocaine, heroin, marijuana, and other “illegal” drugs patients. Egads, even a business man who wanted to just get high on Saturday night could do that too. Cocaine would be available to adults. The stuff being sold on the streets now is actually very dangerous because of a new additive called levamisole. It eats your face. Nice. So we can either have our businessman dead on Monday morning, or we can have him back at work, feeling a little bit tired from a party weekend. If people understand purity and dose, they can regulate their use more safely. Here’s the big idea, please get used to it. People are going to do cocaine. They shouldn’t do it very often, if ever, but if they do it should be done safely. Believe it. Legal drugs save lives.

Seeking Solutions to Mexico’s Drug Issue

Posted by Ty on September 9th, 2011

Legalization is starting to creep into the thinking of those who have exhausted all other avenues to deal with the power of the drug cartels in Mexico. Of course they are powerful. Of course they fight back with ferocity. What choice do they have? Ending prohibition not only removes the profit from the gangs in Mexico, but also from the gangs in the United States. Prohibition empowers criminals. Take the profit away from them. OMGLEGALIZEWTF!!

Raw Opium (official trailer)

Posted by Ty on July 1st, 2011

Enjoy this video trailer of a new hard hitting documentary about the riches and rewards available to all who dare play games with Raw Opium, including all to often, members of the CIA. Plenty of people benefit from prohibition and I’m not sure that the ultimate goal of the lawmakers is to protect the citizens of the United States. I think something else is going on and all who support the war on drugs are pawns in a game that is much bigger than just one country. We can take away the power of the drug lords by legalizing all drugs. Crazy as that may sound, our world will be a much safer place and we can actually work on the problem of drug abuse in our society. Right now we’re just playing with guns and flags and fields and fields of opium, cannabis and everything else they say we can’t have.

“America was founded by puritans and like it or not the anti-pleasure dogma of those buckled-shoed killjoys still pervades our collective unconscious like an I-max shot of Dennis Franz’s naked hairy cop ass. Hence, anything enjoyable is automatically forbidden and bad and in our panic to avoid it at all cost we become obsessed with it… like dressing up in a pink teddy and a pair of ugboots and repeatedly screaming the word ‘VERBOTEN!’ into a conk shell balanced on the back on a miniature pony… Oh, I see.. That would just be me.”

Call For Obama To Legalize Marijuana By International Panel Of Foreign Heads Of State!

Posted by Ty on June 17th, 2011

Dylan Ratigan and MSNBC are beating a constant drum for legalization, for an end to the war on drugs and for implementation of harm reduction strategies that will reduce death, disease, crime, and violence associated with drug abuse and enforcement of drug laws. People who abuse drugs need medical help, they do not need punishment from the criminal justice system. When people like Koffi Annan, George Schulz, Richard Branson, and Vincente Fox are calling for the exact harm reduction remedies that most of the major media in the U.S. been calling for along with MSNBC. Snickering during the debate is no longer tolerated. Nobody does that during a serious discussion about alcohol abuse. Clean it up, America. Cannabis is medicine to most, life enhancement to others, and even a sacrament to still others. Your “leaders” have other interests and do not care if marijuana is safer than alcohol and tobacco. What are those interests? Are they your interests? If not, vote them out. End the drug war yesterday.

But we know that drugs are here to stay, and prohibition and the criminal justice system is not the way to deal with it. And we are people who don’t care about drugs. ‘Global War On Drugs Has Failed,’ Key Panel Says

Posted by Ty on June 3rd, 2011

Global leaders call on America to end the war on drugs. Wow!

NEW YORK — The global war on drugs has failed and governments should explore legalizing marijuana and other controlled substances, according to a commission that includes former heads of state, a former U.N. secretary-general and a business mogul.

A new report by the Global Commission on Drug Policy argues that the decades-old worldwide “war on drugs has failed, with devastating consequences for individuals and societies around the world.” The 24-page paper was released Thursday.

“Political leaders and public figures should have the courage to articulate publicly what many of them acknowledge privately: that the evidence overwhelmingly demonstrates that repressive strategies will not solve the drug problem, and that the war on drugs has not, and cannot, be won,” the report said.

The 19-member commission includes former U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan and former U.S. official George P. Schultz, who held cabinet posts under U.S. Presidents Ronald Reagan and Richard Nixon. Others include former U.S. Federal Reserve chairman Paul Volcker, former presidents of Mexico, Brazil and Colombia, writers Carlos Fuentes and Mario Vargas Llosa, U.K. business mogul Richard Branson and the current prime minister of Greece.

Sadly, this has happened before and the leaders of the United States have ignored the wise leaders of the world. This time, social media is a new force, and the report will likely be recognized by millions of Americans. This time, we will begin to bring down the Berlin Wall that is the War on Drugs.
